about

This song is about a homeless guy who is contemplating taking his own life. It is sung from his perspective, as he finds his way to the top of a high-rise building at night. My wife and I served as volunteers on numerous occasions, with Union Gospel Mission in Seattle. As part of the Search and Rescue team we went to some of the darkest and scariest areas in town, serving hot chocolate, sandwiches and other items to the homeless. When we arrived at our home, each night after we served on the team, we were so thankful to have a roof over our heads, and a warm bed to sleep in. Our hearts go out to these people, many of whom suffer from mental illness, horrible family situations and more.

lyrics

Already Gone
by Stan Snow

Walking down to the city at night
Looking for a reason to live
Everyday is like a bat out of hell
I don’t know what there’s left to give

You say it just takes time
But I need to know
….where to draw the line

How far can you take this road
If you can’t find a way to get out
Tell me, how long can you reach for the top
If you never find a way to get down

How strong do you have to hold on
If you can’t see a way to get in
Tell me, how long can you hang from the edge
If you never get a chance til the end

I don’t know if I’ll ever find a way to move on
I’m already gone

Lost my job and the money ran out
No one there to lend me a hand
I keep tryin’ to get sober enough
But no one really understands

I can see the sign on the wall
There’s no exit here
…except to take the fall

How far can you take this road
If you can’t find a way to get out
Tell me, how long can you reach for the top
If you never find a way to get down

How strong do you have to hold on
If you can’t see a way to get in
Tell me, how long can you hang from the edge
If you never get a chance til the end

I don’t know if I’ll ever find a way to move on
I’m already gone

(Guitar Solo)

It’s ok, it’s gonna be alright
I think I’m gonna make it this time
I don’t know if it’s ever enough
But it’s got to be to keep me alive

I can take it if you give me a chance
There’s no mystery here
…it’s only a circumstance

How far can you take this road
If you can’t find a way to get out
Tell me, how long can you reach for the top
If you never find a way to get down

How strong do you have to hold on
If you can’t see a way to get in
Tell me, how long can you hang from the edge
If you never get a chance til the end

I don’t know if I’ll ever find a way to move on
I'm already gone
