Mystery Car 04:48
Covered with leaves Stranded in the parking lot Out back behind my office window, rejected and abandoned Afflicted by wanderlust And fatigue with the 9 to 5 Temptation is killing me To steal you for a joyride You are a practical sedan For a practical man You are the ideal wheels for an executive on the lam You have your Sundogs sun-roof And your overhead cam The space in the cab is trivial to me There is room for my woman and the key Mystery car, your fenders and bumpers are clean Your Oyster-Blue finish mesmerizes me Like a sophomore haunted by some Kerouac dream My days are lived like I am walking on knives Full of specious agendas and curated lies I am waiting for the day when my courage arrives And I can chase my wandering star In my mystery car I got an email You’re on the radar of the groundskeeping crew They were out back smoking a cigarette Wasting a morning and ruining the view One of them called a tow-truck It is well on the way We have to strike while the iron is hot And make our getaway Mystery car, you’ve stolen the rest of the scene Your Oyster-Blue finish mesmerizes me Like a sophomore haunted by some Kerouac dream My days are lived like I am walking on knives Full of specious agendas and curated lies I am waiting for the day when my courage arrives And I can chase my wandering star To Colombia, or China, or Myanmar I won’t be trapped like a bug in a jar In my mystery car

Janie took a ride downtown to the station She’s got a one track mind and a complication She can’t find true love in the back of a truck Everybody’s sayin’ it’s a matter of luck She doesn’t really know what to do She’s comin’ back home to you Well Janie went south with a pipe dream mission She had a camper van and tie dye vision But when the lightning strikes and it finds the boat You gotta bail the water if you’re gonna stay afloat She doesn’t really know what to do….. She’s comin’ back home to you All it takes is a little bit of common sense You don’t need to go darwinistic Just get your things and don’t go ballistic ….on me Piano Solo Well Janie got caught in a state of transition Workin’ 9 to 5 ain’t a way to partition But when the drinkin’ stops and the lights go down Ain’t no body gonna carry you around She doesn’t really know what to do….. She’s comin’ back home to you Guitar Solo

Pick It Up 04:34
You want to believe That the night has a thousand eyes And a couple of tricks up her sleeve And that each of those thousand eyes can be your friend And they all are looking at you Are you paying attention? To the light on the right of the screen Indicating that your inbox is full A thousand points received There was something I was going to say You know how it is when it slips your mind I’ve dropped the ball, and it’s rolling away Pick it up Can you see the blue glow from across the room Of a like, or a tweet, or a Rap beat Calling to a werewolf driven by a silver moon The Millennium Falcon in a tractor beam A dollar on the floor by a coke machine An angel calling from a flying dream Pick It Up Solo / Interlude The seven steps of seduction Or is it eight, I am never sure? Lost in the indifference, of emoji strewn affections And clever words I am sure you are talking to me, yes you have my attention As I lay in the dark and watch the cursor blink A thousand points received There was something I was going to say You know how it is when it falls away Like a blown up bridge in a cowboy movie Pick it up There’s a box on the step of my front door For the life of me, I cannot remember who it’s from... or what it’s for But somewhere, my account has a debit amount For another box received It must be seen to be believed All the boxes flying everywhere And landing at the doors of the alone Delivered by a drone Pick it up

Turn down the light It’s time to rest Let go the night Inside your head Open up, Your wings will carry you beyond the dawn No one knows All reason, buries you in treason Find your way You’re learning, don’t give up the turning tide It’s all in your mind The freedom within You got to roll down the river til a beacon is revealed inside In the night of the light You float downstream The sky turns blue You find the peace You know it’s true No more lies You’re hanging on to try to find resolve Only you can Weather all the dreams that reach you Every day Is fleeting hold on tight to what you know It’s all in your mind The freedom within You got to roll down the river til a beacon is revealed inside In the night of the light

Ride 03:39
A small stone bowl like the Aztecs used To cut out the hearts of the losers of the games they played Now this gringo, sits on the veranda Tequila is poured, the salsa is made Pennies on the dollar buy a whole barracuda Swimming in mango and chili lime The sea birds circling Neverland While Pancho Villa and the rebels ride across the Rio Grande Venustiano is my new best friend He hovers by the bar and waits for a sign I slip him a twenty when the evening ends Controverting the rules, an understandable crime The border patrol and the refugees Drink Coronas together on the sugar white sand While Pancho Villa and the rebels ride across the Rio Grande Pinatas in the plaza sell for a song We offer a hundred and then walk on A conventional negotiation From the edge of the pool, they say you can see to infinity I try as I drink my chablis My conscience is awash in wine A lethargic emissary from an empire in decline Interdiction, gone off the reservation All the children are banned It’s getting out of hand As Pancho Villa and the rebels ride toward the western sun It has only begun...

Hard Life 04:51
There is a road downtown That leads to the edge of the world And no one can tell you how to walk it alone I left a good job, in the city I left a good woman standing by my side And I found nothing but darkness, in the middle of a cold cold night It ain’t nothing but a hard life I keep searchin’ for a fine line I can’t find a way to let go Of this hard hard life Broken and down, I went Twisted and ground, I spent All that I had, I lost, and found out alone I couldn’t hold on, to the meaning Of what it was like livin’ life on the edge So I took it to the limit, and couldn’t find my way back home It ain’t nothing but a hard life I keep searchin’ for a fine line I can’t find a way to let go Of this hard hard life Guitar Solo 1 You’d think I would learn, from the past And find a way out, of this trap but torture and burn, seems to be the way for me Demons and dreams, still haunt me And I can’t stop til I dance on the sun I’ve got nothing left to lose, and everything to gain in the end It ain’t nothing but a hard life I keep searchin’ for a fine line I can’t find a way to let go Of this hard hard life Guitar Solo 2

Jennifer 04:03
I remember when she came to work that day Young, with soft eyes, and sandy hair that blew my mind away The kind of hair where you could see a thousand strands It blows and lands in scattered patterns on her shoulders like a lei A soft and an impressionable girl Taking notes and watching furtively the goofy office dance Advised to go to school she went to the University And returned all full of rules about prediction and forbearing Against randomness and chance Jennifer would never call that data When your heart bends like a tree in a hurricane Unmeasured, unpredicted evidence would be evicted Cause the proof is in the pudding I should have seen the writing on the wall It didn't seem like Jennifer at all Jennifer retired the other day I’ve seen her come and go, what does that say? She was not the doe-eyed girl that I remembered Whose hair blew wild and free with possibility unfettered Babies at her knee, she’d had enough, and now she’s flown upon the wind I will likely not see Jennifer again Jennifer would never call that data The sadness in my heart now she’s disappeared for good The future just a fog of probabilities and odds Predictive informatics, smart machines, and other gods We worship at the altars of the day And Jennifer has up and gone away

The Code 04:54
When the fire of youth is inside of you You can see all the way to the land of dreams But when the sky turns dark and the questions come Can you still find a way to the dreams you’ve seen? There’s a bridge, they say it’s too far but you can’t believe the words they say There’s a code, to make the ends meet Hold tight to your horizon Give it time, Don’t lose faith When the morning light is upon your face And the truth of your path settles down to rest There may come a time when you can’t go on And the fire of your youth is put to the test There’s a road, you can follow but you can’t foresee what’s waiting there There’s a code, to make the ends meet Hold tight to your horizon Give it time, Don’t lose faith Bridge / Solo As the years roll on you will understand There’s a void in your heart if you don’t believe And when you stand at the edge of emptiness You can choose not to lose all the dreams you seek There’s a bridge, they say it’s too far but you can’t believe the words they say There’s a code, to make the ends meet Hold tight to your horizon Give it time, Don’t lose faith

Freedom 04:54
Freedom Like a tidal wave, you find your way Freedom You gotta hold the line to make it stay………to make it stay Black or white, we all are one in the same It’s just a change of the name It’s who we are Guns and steel can tear your world to the ground But the strength of your mind Will carry you on Freedom Like a fire burns hot, you stay the road Freedom You gotta break the chains, and let it go……….. and let it go Tortured soldiers on the new front line It’s just a step in time, the war beyond Fight to bring your vision to the core, It’s what you’re fighting for What you can see Freedom Like a thousand years, you’re hanging on Freedom You gotta find a way, to keep it strong………. to keep it strong

Angus 04:29
I went out to the deep green wood Fire was burning in my head Walked to a river and there I stood Cut me a willow, tied on a thread Dropped a line into the stream Circles rippled like a dream Down in my fingers, pull on the line Do it again, just one more time Apples of the Sun Apples of the Moon My feet are tired from a life on the run Around the corner, I’ll find her soon Flash of silver, leap in the air Leaves are shimmering, sun is high Pull it stronger, if I dare Out on the wing, the white birds fly Turning away, I light the fire The sun goes down, and I retire My mind drifts back, to places I’ve been When I wake up, she’s gone again Apples of the Moon Apples of the Sun Since I was young I’ve been writing this tune I’m going to find her before I’m through I’ve been wandering, forty years Telling of the one that got away Between the lies and between the beers Night comes on, no more to say Mountain snow runs down the stream Flashing in the sun like a dream I walk to the edge and there I stand Reading the water with a stick in my hand Apples of the Sun Apples of the Moon My feet are tired from a life on the run Around the corner, I’ll find her soon Apples of the Moon Apples of the Sun Since I was young I’ve been writing this tune I’m going to find her before I’m through

Balloon 05:47
Michaelangelo went to the carnival show He was inspired by a stranger with a painted face He handed him a string dangling a bright red balloon Michael let it go... watched it fly away Up into outer space Please don't pop my balloon It took so long to fill it with popcorn dreams Shining on the water, reflection of the moon Objects in the mirror are not what they seem Breathe the helium in, it makes me high, and carries me away All God’s children have a place in the choir It's a perfect afternoon, so Please don't pop my balloon Dante Alleghieri couldn't sit still at school Scenes of California tripping in his renaissance mind A naughty little hottie in a red maserati captured his wandering eye She was the only education that Dante wanted to find Please don't pop my balloon It took so long to fill it with popcorn dreams Shining on the water, reflection of the moon Objects in the mirror are not what they seem Breathe the helium in, it makes me high, and carries me away All God’s children have a place in the choir My hair is on fire The scarecrow lady with the black high heels said Balloons are no longer allowed She came with a book of rules one day and said You’ve got to find another way to distinguish yourself From the rest of the crowd Please don't pop my balloon It took so long to fill it with popcorn dreams Shining on the water, reflection of the moon Objects in the mirror are not what they seem Breathe the helium in, it makes me high, and carries me away All God’s children have a place in the choir I’m coming home soon Please don't pop my balloon
